The Charlatans to perform Some Friendly
FILED UNDER: The CharlatansWednesday February 3, 2010
The Charlatans have announced they are going to be playing their debut album, Some Friendly, with a special show at the Roundhouse, London on 31 May 2010. Which is, well… nice but also disappointing, as we were talking to the band since two years ago about tying in an Omnibus Edition style re-issue of the album (the first two albums in fact) but their new management weren’t keen, so the idea of celebrating the 20th anniversary was shelved. A shame, since a box set with a re-mastered album, singles, sessions, all the demo material and live recordings would have done the album justice and been a special bonus for the fans, which would have been nice too.
It should be a cracking show though, if you’re lucky enough to get a ticket.
What a shame all parties couldn’t agree on this!! I’m sure many people would buy both remasters in a cinch, since they could really need it!!
But why can we read this on nme.com??:
“The Charlatans are to play their 1990 debut album ‘Some Friendly’ in full at a London gig this May. The gig, which takes place on May 31 at The Roundhouse venue, is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album, which includes the tracks ‘Then’, ‘Sproston Green’ and the Top Ten single ‘The Only One I Know’ (which did not feature on the original vinyl version). A reissued version of the album is expected to be released around the gig. The Charlatans are currently recording a new studio album with producer Youth, with the record due for release in June.”

The NME report of an album release was fiction, but we just about have time to make it come true by releasing a paired down version of the box set.
