Ain’t it always the way… After failing to locate tapes by The Charlatans, Blood Sausage and Skinned Teen on the regular shelves, I decided to go through some of the stacked boxes. And there, 9 months too late, I find multi-tracks and 7 reels of mixed masters for The Cult’s concert on 6 December 1985 at The Ritz in New York. If I’d found them earlier we could have included the gig in the Love Omnibus edition instead of licensing a show from the BBC. I’d previously tried MTV, who filmed the concert, but they only had the 25 minutes that were broadcast. Just to add to the coincidence, I met the man who mixed the show, The Cult’s producer Steve Brown, coming back from the storeroom. Yes, you guessed – he’d completely forgotten about it which is why he’d never told me!

  1. Actually, I was talking to Dale a couple of years back about Blood Sausage, I’ll have you know.

  2. That’s a bit crappy. Any chance of sticking the concert on iTunes? Or maybe we could download the MP3 files directly from you.

  3. I’m sure we’ll sort out something – maybe when we release a high resolution Blu-ray of Love!

  4. Or maybe print a few cds so we can put them in the box.

  6. Solution: Make that a bonus for the “Live at the Lyceum” DVD!!

    :)

  7. You just have to release that at some point now. Le Zombie’s idea is great, go with that.

  8. What a bunch of sneaky Cult fans… trying to trick me into releasing a Lyceum DVD! Hell, the BBC Paris Theatre show was going to be the bonus concert on that one!!
Seriously guys, if we can make economic sense out of these projects (and they have to be done with respect for quality) and the band are happy, then we will try to do them (but not right now).

  9. Apologies if you’ve had to answer this many times already, but is there likely to be omnibus or expanded editions of Electric?

    — Worthless Recluse · Thursday April 15, 2010 · #

  10. Now we know why The Cult went to NYC to re-mix the Electric Album

  11. I, for one, would buy this in whatever form it would be available in. That said, beyond my greed, I am glad the tapes were found and can be properly looked after and cataloged—who knows how many gems are lost to the vagaries of time and place! I am very happy that your curiosity resulted in the tapes surfacing after all this time. Thank you!

  12. Black Cat, can you give us any idea if Beggars are planning on releasing Omnibus editions of any of the other Cult albums? Especially Electric, Sonic Temple and Ceremony? Or was Love a one-off?

  13. Well let me just say Please GOD!! get an omnibus together of Electric, fans are dying for it, the interest is there.
Obviously if it could be done for all albums this would be fantastic, but really holding out for Electric omnibus.
